Kidnappers kill policeman after N15m ransom payment by officers

A policeman who was abducted few weeks ago by unknown gunmen has been reportedly murdered in captivity in Ebonyi State, South East, Nigeria.

The tragedy occurred barely one month after wife out to bed, according to Intelligence shared with some security agents, alleged that his abductors collected the sum of N15,000,000.00 (Fifteen Million Naira) ransom from his family members learned about his death at the weekend.

Before his demise, the Cop, was deployed from Edo State police Command on a special duty to Ebonyi Command where he was taken into captivity by gunmen weeks ago, a security source said.

The well placed source hinted that after the Cop, was taken into captivity, his kidnappers reached out to his family to provide the sum of N30,000,000,00. (Thirty Million Naira) to secure his release.

But after a back channel appeals by the family of the accomplished Cop, the kidnappers were said to have reduced the ransom by 50 per cent. Yet, they still were unable to meet the target.

Last week, wife of the victim together with his friends and well wishers of the gallant policeman, reached out to his senior colleagues at a popular spot near Police Area Command in Benin.

Worried by his prolonged stay in captivity, some senior police officers levied themselves the sum of N15,000 (Fifteen Thousand Naira) each to secure his release before tragedy struck.

A top police officer who spoke in a moment of high exuberance after redeeming his N15,000.00 pledge to the course, lamented the ordeal of Nigeria police personnel.

He said, “We use to sit here and relax after work. But, today, our friend and brother is no more.
“They killed him probably because they discovered that he was a police officer.

“His wife is now a widow his child has been made fatherless”, the security agent said, ” said while praying for the repose of his soul.
