Ighodalo’s DG predicts PDP members’ resignation

The Director-General of Ighodalo/Ogie Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) campaign Management Council, Mr Matthew Iduoriyekemwen has predicted mass resignation of errant party members led by Dan Orbih, a staunch loyalist to the Minister of Federal Capital Territory, Mr Nyesom Wike.

But beyond the optics and the sense of conspiracy against Ighodalo’s Candidacy, Iduoriyekemwen assured that the imminent exodus of Orbih’s supporters from PDP, will not dither Asue Ighodalo and Osarodion Ogie joint victory in the September 21 gubernatorial poll.

TheNewspad recalls that on Wednesday July 10th 2024, the National Working Committee (NWC) of PDP suspended Orbih, the party’s national Vice Chairman, South-South, the leader of ‘PDP legacy group’ in the State.

He was suspended at the 588th meeting of the umbrella party in Abuja where it set up six-man investigative Committee to probe anti-party activities levelled against him by some members of the party.

Speaking on Thursday June 11th 2024, Channels Television Sunrise Daily interview, Iduoriyekemwen stated that “they are trying to get their followers to drop say that they are resigning from PDP. But, we are not bothered because they have since left the PDP”.

The Director-General said, “The disciplinary Committee action being melted at Orbih is long overdue. Not just Orbih alone, but his team mates that call themselves legacy PDP”.

He described Dan Orbih suspension by the PDP as both welcome and significant, noting that “in a situation where you find some persons say if what they want, they do not get it, we must bring down the party is unacceptable”.

“They (Orbih and others) have refused to avail themselves of the opportunity provided by the party’s Constitution whatever conflict that may have arisen.

“We do not believe that we should fight dirty; That is why till now, we want to extend hands of fellowship to them.

“When they (errant PDP members) became recalcitrance, and embarked on a mission of political self-destruction, what should we (PDP) do?
We can only but focus on the assignment before us in Edo State, which is winning the governorship election billed for September 21 2024”, Iduoriyekemwen said.

He described the recent federal High Court in Abuja judgement that put faulted the exclusion of some PDP delegates in conduct of February 2024 Edo PDP governorship primaries, which produced Mr Asue Ighodalo as a trick of the light, noting however that the ruling party in Edo stands a better place ahead of the forthcoming election.

The former Majority Leader in the State House of Assembly said, “PDP is a party that is harvesting members from Labour Party, All Progressives Grand Alliance and the All Progressives Congress daily”.

“The people that are being harvested are people that have electoral value in the party they are coming from”, according to Iduoriyekemwen.
