Highway robbers kill Edo policeman

Suspected highway robbers have reportedly gun down a policeman attached to Edo State Command in Benin City, the State Capital.

The tragedy occurred at a checkpoint mounted by the police on Ifon-Sobe-Auchi road on Saturday night, in an ambush,

Two other police officers escaped the attack unhurt, according to security sources.

It was learnt that two policemen who were also at the checkpoint, escaped the attack.

But the assailants, snatched the rifle yet-to-be identified Cop and fled into the nearby bushes.

A stranded policeman flanked by another officer, can been seeing in a viral video shared on social media, begging a commuter to help to take body of the slain Cop on the highway from the scene.

A number of armed groups have been operating on the alternative gateway to the complicated and deplorable Benin-Auchi Road network.

The Command’s spokesman, SP. Chidi Nwabuzor, could not be reached for comments as at the time of filing this report.

A top security officer hinted our Correspondent that the Command has been briefed about the incident.
