Heartbreaking moment at Edo jogger’s funeral

It was heartbreaking moment when family members of a jogger, Geoffrey, who was crushed to death by hit-and-run driver paid tributes at his funeral in Benin City, Edo State.

The middle-aged man was jogging two weeks ago at about 6: 15am when a yet-to-be identified Spot Utility Vehicle (SUV) driver, knocked down and burst Geoffrey’s skull on Benin-Sapele road by PZ junction in Ikpoba-Okha Local Government Area of Edo State and sped off, to amusement of tensed witnesses.

Afterward, personnel of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) arrived the scene and took his body away, according to witnesses who said driver, suddenly made a U-turn after his initial detour when the incident occurred ostensibly take him to hospital for urgent Medical attention.

The father of one daughter, he had with his separated wife, Eromwon, was buried on Saturday August 31st 2024 at a private residence around Eweka street, besides Mary Magdalene hospital, off Murtala Muhammed Way in Benin City.

A family member said, His (Geoffrey’) late mother whose maternal home is in Imairoghioba area in Benin, had the his outside wedlock with his surviving father.

“He was a calm guy and the eldest son of his parents, and the only surviving son of his late mother he had with his father. Luckily, Geoffrey, had a little girl. Geoffrey mother is late”, he said.

Another woman who saw Geoffrey through school said, “I could not watch the video where FRSC people were gathering his bones after the accident”.

Grieving family members and tearful residents at his maternal home, wept uncontrollably when his body was being interred.
