The Minister of Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike has threatened to ignite fire in Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) state Governors are who are toying with the political structure in Rivers State-led by his successor, Governor Similanayi Fubara, his political in River State.
The former who issued issued the threat on Saturday when he led loyalists to participate in the nationwide PDP Congress held at the party’s Secretariat on Aba road in Port Harcourt, River State where 39-member executives who emerged was sworn-in by a former Attorney General in the State.
Addressing delegates shortly after casting his ballot, Wike said, “I will put fire in their States…I have the capacity to do the same thing in your States”.
In a veiled response to recent moves by PDP Governors who have vehemently backed Fubara, which seems to have angered the FCT Minister who said, “Not while we live will anybody take the PDP structure from us”.
He also said, “I hear that some governors claim they will take the structure and give it to somebody. I pity those governors because I will put fire in their States”.
The former Governor who was accorded a rousing reception at the event said, “INEC is here. Security agents are here”.
“The law requires that for every Congress or Primaries of any political party, INEC must observe. I assure you, yes, we have done our own part by electing a Governor a Government in the State.
“But, if the Government says it does not want you, will you kill yourselves? Will you run away from the party you built? We are the party members and we have taken over our party”, he said.
Earlier in his goodwill message, the newly elected chairman of PDP, Rivers State chapter, Mr Aaron Chukwuemeka, vowed to embark on reconciliation of members of the party before the end of the tenure of the executive in the next three years.
According to him, “we want to bring every member back to PDP. We are going to visit the elders and leaders as well as the founding fathers of the party”.
He also said, “those who are fermenting trouble in Rivers PDP are not PDP members. These are people who do not have National Assembly members, who do not have State House of Assembly. They come to Rivers State to make trouble.
“Nysom Wike has taken time to build this party and Rivers State. Their plans will not stand and we are going to resist it”, he said.
Former past members of the National and past State House of Assembly and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) officials in the State, were present during the exercise.
But Governor Similanayi Fubara whose photograph appeared on the programme of activities for the event and members of the State Executive Council in the State were absent at the Congress, chaired by Senator Sandy Ono.
TheNewspad recalls that the relationship between the FCT Minister and his successor, strained after Fubara emerged Governor of the State on May 29th 2023.
The battle between the Wike and Governor Fubara over who controls of the State, has resulted in the splitting of the State House of Assembly.
The wave of crisis that erupted, led to a prolonged unabated legal tussle that has defied several reconciliatory moves by State actors led by President Bola Tinubu.
