Gunmen fatally attack students at UNIBEN gate

There was pandemonium when gunmen suspected to be cultists launched a deadly attack on some students at the University of Benin (UNIBEN) main gate, Ugbowo Campus on Benin-Lagos road.

 

The hoodlums ambushed a grey colour GLK Mercedes Benz car marked Lagos: AAA 601 HT and shot at the vehicle occupants suspected to be students, leaving at least one person behind the wheel — believed to be the car driver, dead.

 

It was gathered that the armen who rode in their operational vehicle whose particulars could not be immediately verified, were said to have pulled over, and fatally attacked and left them with blood stains and broken windscreens that littered the floor.

 

A viral footage of the attack, indicates that the Mercedes Benz was riddled with bullets, while bystanders and sympathizers, rushed to the scene, wailing.

 

Some witnesses speculated that the violent attack was cult-related, others are alleging that the incident may not be unconnected with a case of suspected yahoo that backfired over the refusal to remit proceeds of internet fraud allegedly paid into an account from an undisclosed source.

 

Operatives of the Nigeria police at Estate Police Division have storms the scene and evacuated the victims and the vehicle, after the gunmen had left the crime scene.

 

Contacted, spokesperson of the Nigeria police Command in Edo State, SP Eno Ikoedem, promised to respond to the incident as soon as details of the incident is available.

 

TheNewspad can confirm that some of the gunshot victims have been hauled to the Accident and Emergency Unit of the University of Benin Teaching Hospital, UBTH for medical care.
