Fuel subsidy removal best for Nigeria, Uzodimma backs Tinubu

The Imo State governor, Mr Hope Uzodimma has described the removal of subsidy on petrol, also known as Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) as the best thing that has happened to Nigeria.

According to him, “Removal of fuel subsidy is the best thing that has happened to the Country. What are we talking about? We almost got to a stage when we taught the nation was a mono economy.

“The oil money disappeared because we subsidized import. At the end of the day, we had a member of the Comity of nations. Is there any where in the world as an oil producing nation where that importation is the order of the day. Is there any OPEC member that is in the same category with Nigeria that is importing petroleum product? No!

“Exxon Mobil, Shell Petroleum, Gulf; Oil the oil companies that are producing crude oil products in Nigeria like in Britain, America, and Venezuela that import products are imported?”, the Governor said.

When asked asked to recommend to the federal and sub-national governments on management of the back clash over demands for wage increase by workers to cushion the effects of hike in the prices of commodity, Uzodimma said, “We must allow market forces to determine the cost of living.

“The so-called subsidy is not beneficial when we do not have raids, schools and good and affordable healthcare”, he said.
