Four suspected cultists behind cult-related violence and other criminal activities have been arrested and taken into police custody in Kwara State, the Nigeria police Command in Kwara State, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi said.
Some members of the notorious cult group were overpowered after they launched an attack on operatives of the Violent Crime Response Unit during a targeted operation in Ijagbo, Oyun Local Government Area of the State on Thursday, 11th June 2026.
In a statement issued on Sunday, SP Ejire-Adeyemi who identified one amongst the quartet as Idowu Akorede, male, of Ijagbo allegedly known as Capon of the outlawed Eiye Confraternity.
The statement explained that Idowu
was arrested at a hideout in Ijagbo. Further operations led to the arrest of three other suspects who are yet to be named by the police.
The statement said, “Upon sighting the operatives, the suspects reportedly resisted arrest and launched an attack on the officers with broken bottles in a bid to evade capture”.
According to him, “the operatives, however, exercised restraint, professionalism, and tactical superiority in subduing the suspects and taking them into custody without injury”.
The suspects, according to the statement have since been transferred to Ilorin and are currently in police custody while investigations continue,n while efforts are also ongoing to identify and apprehend other members of the criminal network in the State.
In the meantime, the Commissioner of Police, Kwara State Command, CP Ojo Adekimi, has commended the operatives for their courage, professionalism, and commitment to duty.
He reassured residents of the Command’s unwavering determination to confront all forms of criminality and ensure the safety of lives and property across the State.
He advised members of the public to remain vigilant and continue supporting the Police with timely and useful information that will aid ongoing efforts to combat crime and maintain public safety across the State.
