Expatriate running from kidnappers drowns in Rivers

Search and rescue operation for road construction workers who got drown when a van skidded into Okulu Aleto Bridge in Eleme Local Government Area of Rivers State, has ended in tragedy.

This followed the death of a Dutch expatriate, Gibson Reuben who got drowned in the Okulu River, Aleto Eleme after his car fell into the river.

Reuben who was the Managing Director/CEO of Rivers State Cassava Industry Limited, Afam, lost his life while trying to escape from gunmen suspected to be kidnappers on Monday night when convoy was attacked by armed men.

The bridge on the East-West road that connects Port Harcourt, Rivers State Capital with Ogoni communities in Akwa Ibom State, is undergoing reconstruction.

A body was brought out along with a
white colour Toyota Toyota Hilux van from the river by emergency responders, with the aid of hitech forklift equipment after hours as angry residents of the locality lament.

The rescue team, comprising, divers, Nigeria Naval and Nigeria police personnel led by the newly deposited Commissioner of Police in Rivers State, CP Olugbenga Adewole.

A veteran journalist, Emmanuel Obe, shared photograph of the tragic incident on Facebook late Tuesday, with widespread condemnation by social media users across various spectrum.
