Police authorities are seeking for useful information to apprehend and prosecute the culprits behind the alleged murder of a bus driver in Edo State.
The body of the victim simply identified as Mr Voki, was recovered on Monday (June 5, 2023) by Oba market Police personnel besides the Benin Central motor park, Obakhavnaye in Oredo Local government Area of the State.
A devastated close family member, alleged that Voki from Delta State, but resides in Benin City, the victim was abducted by hoodlums on Sunday night of June 4, 2023 after a disagreement over about N20,000.00 unpaid balance for his hired 10-seater Bus.
The source who claimed to have got reports from eye witnesses, alleged that the father of three children, was hacked to death and his body was dumped his corpse at Obakhaye area after a fatal confrontation between him and yet-to-be unidentified persons.
“Voki was a very strong man. Even three men cannot fight him inna fight. We learnt that he was waylaid by some persons led by one of his fellow drivers around Iyaro area on Sunday June 4th night.
“They (attackers) collected all the cash with him One of workers of the owner of his vehicle, who identified Voki they claim was owing the owner of his Voki’s vehicle N20,000.00 balance.
“His body was found near a gutter by some driver at the motor park at Obakhavbaye where he worked. They called me and said your Warri brother is dead. Come and see him. When we got there, we saw a crowd of people around Voki on the ground dead.
“When we got there, we saw that it was Voki.
“The injury we on his body was not enough to kill him.
“Some residents told us they saw some unknown persons where Voki’s corpse was dumped on Sunday night. They told us that they were scared to speak hence it was late.
“They told us that they were surprised the following morning to discover his corpse. We quickly contacted police. His only sibling is in Lagos”, Voki family. Voki’s mother who died few months ago, is still in mortuary. Voki’s His only sister died last year member said.
Contacted, spokesman of the Nigeria Police Command in Edo State, SP. Chidi Nwabuzor is yet to respond to inquiry by our Correspondent via the telephone as at the time of filing this report.
But, a source at the Command, confirmed the incident, stating that Police have commenced investigation into the incident.
The police officer who craved for anonymity explained that the Voki’s body had been deposited at the Stella Obasanjo’s Women and Children’s Hospital morgue in Benin for preservation.
