A 22-year-old hairdresser that reportedly killed herself over loss of her lover after discovering that her man she rented a house and gave a car
gift with her thriving business, had an affair with another woman in Enugu State, is trending.
As reported, Mary, who hailed from Woleche-Ipuole in Yahe Ward, Yala Local Government Area of Cross River State, was said to have ingested a poisonous substance after severe heartbreak.
The victim who was said to be upset after getting into several heated arguments with her lover who had been in a fire financial strait before he life-changing encounter, according to a family source last Friday.
The source, according to Vanguard Newspaper, “She became very angry and left for her own apartment. There, she called her mother and told her what happened. She also said her mother should take whatever happened in good faith, that she wouldn’t live again” Daniel said
The source revealed that Mary’s mother, who reportedly had no airtime to call her back, did not raise an alarm or alert neighbours until she later received a call that her daughter had taken a poisonous substance and was rushed to the hospital.
Efforts by doctors to save her life reportedly failed, and she was confirmed dead later that evening. And immediately, Her corpse was taken to her village in Yala, where she was buried on Saturday.
“Immediately the body arrived, we dug a grave and buried her because she was too young to be kept for a customary burial ceremony.
“We are at a loss as to why she should take such action over a boyfriend. Some people say she was spiritually manipulated, but whatever it was, no blame game will bring her back,” a deceased family member said.
The family did not report the matter to the police, insisting that she took her own life, according to the report. But there are concerns that the young lady did not think ordeal through before she took her own life.
Mary’s tragic end is thought to be amongst several unreported cases of suicide arising from heartbreak, depression and loss of close family member and other health conditions in Nigeria where life expectancy that has been a steady low daily due to economic hardship.
