Enugu fast turning into killing field

Residents of Enugu State have reasons to fear for their lives following the rising cases of politically motivated murders across the State as grieving families of murder victims are hoping that justice will be served.

The recent discovery of the decomposing body of Mr. Dons Udeh, All Progressive Grand Alliance  governorship aspirant during the last governorship election in Enugu State, which found in a bush, leaving many to wonder of governments really exist.

Less than two months Enugu State has recorded gruesome murder of prominent politicians in controversial circumstances most of whom are prominent opposition political leaders.

Accusations have been laid on the ruling Peoples Democratic Party in the State over the gruesome murder of the Labour party Senotorial candidate for Enugu East Senatorial zone Barr. Oyibo Chukwu two weeks to the 2023 general elections.

While the bereaved family of Chukwu was still being mourn, another tragedy occurred, when the governorship Candidate of All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) for the 2023, Mr Dons Udeh was kidnapped by unknown people only to discover his decomposing body was found in a bush at the 9th mile Conner in Enugu State.

Killings in and around Enugu State have been linked to herdsmen who are usually ascribed as toga of ‘unknown gunmen’, according to sources, before the 2023 general elections. The State witnessed indiscriminate bloodshed particularly in Uzo uwani,Isi Uzo and and Nkanu East and west Council areas of the State.

Kidnappings, and assassinations, are said to be more frequent in the State, according to Observers assessment of the development, which has become a threat to peace, unity and development of the State that is in dare need of libration.

The sudden death of Mr Don Udeh
who was earlier reported missing a few days ago before his death. He contested on the platform of the All Progressives Grand Alliance has left a soured pill in the mouth of Nigerians

Udeh’s vehicle was also said to have been recovered by police, but it is not clear whether he was a victim of kidnapping or assassination.  

The police in Enugu had also directed for discreet investigation on the murder of Mr Udeh, while cross section of the people who are unsatisfied with the turn of events, are calling on President Mohammed Buhari to intervene.

The call is coming on the heels of the beginning of the hearing of the election petition tribunal in various States, including Enugu, ahead of the handing over of reigns of governments on May 29th 2023.
