Employee in police net over stolen poultry birds worth N8m

An employee of Libro Farm Bambose in Odeda area of Ogun State, is in police net over 1,300 missing poultry birds (chickens) that were kept in his custody.

Abiola Olumuyiwa, was arrested for failing to give a satisfactory account for the birds estimated at N8 million (Eight Million Naira).

Police said the suspect was arrested after the Director of the farm (name withheld), lodged a complain before CSP Kola Akande, the Divisional Police officer, DPO in the State.

Spokesperson for the Nigeria Police Command in Ogun State, SP Omolola Odutola disclosed this in a statement issued on behalf of the State Commissioner of Police, CP Alamutu Abiodun Mustapha.

SP. Odutola, called for information from the public that will lead to the arrest of suspected culprits involved in the conspiracy and stealing.

The statement said, 56-year-old Director of Agbaja zone 3 off Akute road Olodo Ibadan, employed the employee on the 28th January 2023 to look after the poultry farm.

SP. Odutola said preliminary investigation has commenced, while the suspect has been apprehended and taken into police custody to ascertain the extent or veracity of Abiola’s alleged theft.

The statement said, “On the 11th of August 2023, when the fowls were counted, the director discovered that about one thousand three hundred valued at 8m Naira could not be accounted for.

“The farm’s Director is pained at the enormous havoc done to the poultry farm in reference to the harsh economic situation.

“The suspect when asked if any death or disease attacked the livestock farm he (suspect) replied negative. His (Olumuyiwa’s) demeanour is relevant, when he said he made me a mistake”, the statement said.
