Edo traders boo arrested chickens’ theft syndicate

The arrest of three ‘chicken’ theft syndicate by personnel of Edo State Security Corps, sparked jubilation amongst traders on Monday morning at the popular Oba market in Oredo Local Government Area of Edo State.

The yet-to-named male suspects who trick the poultry birds in cages, were nabbed on Monday January 19, 2026 by men of Edo State Security agents assigned to the market.

Investigation revealed that their arrest of the syndicate that are said to have stolen hundreds of chickens, followed incessant complaints received from some traders at the market, under reconstruction by the State government.

Incidents of chicken thefts prompted the security guards step up intelligence on suspicion movements at night, leading to the suspects arrest by the Corps.

The suspects were paraded to Oredo Local Government Council Secretariat along with the stolen chickens, by the local security personnel who thereafter handed the suspects over to a nearby police Division for further investigation and prosecution.

He revealed that the unidentified fleeing female stolen chickens receiver who has seen poultry traders lose valuable investments and their livelihood sources at the market, would come under the full weight of the law.

Already, some poultry bird traders who fell victim to the ruthless criminal gang have been invited by the police for interrogation.
