The Edo State government has shut down Safe Bliss Medical Centre on Siluko road in Egor Local Government Area of the State over alleged negligence and unsafe medical practices, leading to HIV blood transfusion to 19-month-old baby at the private hospital.
The State Commissioner for Health, Dr Cyril Oshiomhole confirmed the shut down of the facility in connection with the diagnosis that could pose a devastating and lifelong consequences on baby Jeremiah, and his family who has asked the hospital to take responsibility.
“Investigation revealed that the hospital was operating without registration”, according to him, “preliminary findings shows that the blood donor was tested HIV negative as of July 28th 2025”.
“The parents of the baby have been screened”, noting that we have sealed the hospital. The parents, we have taken their blood samples and they are both HIV negative. It’s horrific. I would not wish that (HIV) for my enemy at all”, Dr Oshiomhole said.

He also alleged the hospital Management advised him to pay the sum of N40,000 for blood transfusion which was administered to his child.
Praise Moboh explained that they (Couple) returned to the same hospital on May 3rd 2025 for the second time when they were made to pay the sum of N35,000 for another blood that was transfused into the baby, following a medical advice from the hospital.
This was after he (Praise Moboh) offered to donate blood for his son, but they (Couple) was told by the hospital Management that he was not for to donate blood to the child, a development that kept him more worried.
The distraught child’s father stated that they became more agitated when they were told at a government hospital that their sick child tested HIV positive after conducting some tests on the baby weeks later.
Praise Moboh recalled, “when my child’s temperature started running high this year. On February 6th, we took him to Safe Bliss Medical Centre. I wanted to donate blood, they said the Laboratory Scientist was not around and that they can’t take blood from me.
“Before the test, my child was HIV negative, but after the test, they said my child was HIV positive”, he said while appealing for justice.
In his part, the State Commissioner for Justice, Samson Osagie, acknowledged receipt of a petition from a parent of the child, assuring those behind the criminal act will be made to face the wrath of the law in due cause.
