The Executive Director, Edo State Agency for the Control of HIV/AIDs (Edo SACA), Flora Oyakhilome is dead, three years after clinching the 2021 Zonal Outstanding SACA Performance Award.

She lost her life battle after a brief illness at Lagos hospital on Wednesday September 4th 2024.

Neither Oyakhilome family nor the State government has yet-to comment on her death.

But an official in Edo State Ministry of Health, confirmed the incident to TheNewspad Editor, said “she had been sick”.

She said the SACA boss was earlier admitted for an undisclosed ailment at the University of Benin Teaching (UBTH) in Benin where she was moved to Lagos State for further treatment.

The official said, “Yes. She has been sick. It happened the day before yesterday. It was in Lagos she died”.

TheNewspad reports that the Sexagenarian worked and retired in the State Ministry of Health before she was appointed by Governor of Edo State, Godwin Obaseki as Executive Director of SACA, which is one of the Departments in the Ministry of Health.

Oyakhilome had received several laurels in recognition of the government’s outstanding performance in Community outreach and engagement especially, in mobilizing resources for HIV/Aids response in the State.

The late Executive Director who championed advocacy towards achieving HIV/AIDS-free State, hails from Edo Central Senatorial District. Her tragedy has left her family and friends crestfallen.

A lecturer in the University of Benin, Dr
Neville Obakhedo is among prominent Nigerians who have started paying tributes to the late Executive Director of SACA.
