Edo Assembly to probe ‘missing vehicles, bikes’ donated to security agencies by Okpebholo

The Edo State House of Assembly has disclosed plans to probe the whereabouts of patrol vehicles and motorcycles as well as other security surveillance gadgets that were donated to heads of security agencies by Governor Monday Okpebholo-led government in the State.

Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Hon. Blessing Agbebaku, who dropped the hint on Radio programme, while reacting to protests against last Saturday violent crimes, including incessant fatal abductions at Ekpoma, Esan West Local Government Area, leading to the arrest and remand of 52 accused at the Custodial Centre of the Nigerian Correctional Service.

He assured that the Legislature would invited heads of security agencies when the House of Assembly resumes plenary on the second week of February 2026.

The Speaker also raised concerns over potential misuse, Management and maintenance of the vehicles and motorcycles that were acquired with Edo tax-payers money.

“The Governor has done well as the Chief security officer of the State, but he is not the Army Commander and the State Commissioner of Police. So you cannot expect him to go after kidnappers in the bush.

“So, Edo people in diaspora should not criticize him for that. He bought hundreds of vehicles and bikes for specific agencies in Edo State. But where are the vehicles”, according to Hon. Agbebaku.

He recommended profiling of criminal suspects arrested in connection with the protest against insecurity at Ekpoma, towards ensuring that innocent arrested students are released.
