Chinese Expatriate seized in fatal ambush of 8 Edo NSCDC regain freedom after 3 months

A Chinese Expatriate who abducted during the fatal ambush that led to the killing of Eight Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC personnel attached to him by gunmen in Okpella, Etsako East Local Government Area of Edo State have regained their freedom after spending three months in captivity.

The notification is contained in the last statement endorsed by the Nigeria Police Command in Edo State spokesman, CSP Moses Yamu before handing over the mantle to his successor, ASP Eno Nkereuwem Ikoedem.

The statement recalled that the hostage was released on December 2nd 2025 at a location in Kabba, Kogi State following sustained technical and tactical operations jointly executed by the Edo and Kogi State Police Commands, with support from vigilante groups and local hunters.

The police Command commends all partners involved in this successful rescue effort in the statement, which also confirmed the arrest of suspected 6-man criminal gang that were intercepted on November 2nd 2025 at about 1800hrs by operatives of Okhuaihe Division in collaboration with vigilante personnel.

The suspects identified as Usman Ibrahim, Bello Garba, Dahiru Muhammad, Sarki Murtala, Suleman Ibrahim, Umar Yahaya, Abdulahi Hassan, Ages between 22 and 30 years, had alighted from a truck, were nabbed by security operatives while on routine stop-and-search duty on the Benin-Agbor Road.

A search revealed several pictures of the suspects posing with assault rifles. They claimed to be coming from Adamawa State but could not provide any satisfactory explanation regarding their mission.

The suspects, according to the statement have been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further investigation.

Elsewhere at Okhuaihe, the same patrol team intercepted another suspicious individual identified as Isah Musa Maidawa, who also alighted from a truck on December 4th 2025.

In the meantime, police personnel of Ekiadolor Division, alongside Edo State Security Corps personnel, intercepted Ibrahim Mohammed (28yrs) on Oluku-Ahor Bypass in December 6th 2025 at about 0830 hours with locally fabricated single-barreled revolver shotgun, a flashlight, and a vigilante T-shirt.

The police said the criminal suspect could not give any satisfactory explanation of himself or his mission and has been handed over to the SCID for discreet investigation.

Additionally, operatives of 82 PMF Squadron, Uromi, Esan North East Local Government Area of Edo State on nipping operations on Auchi-Agbede road, intercepted David James Odaukwo with an empty LAR rifle magazine concealed in a sack.

The suspect, who was caught with rifle magazine on December 6th 2025 at about 1200 hours, claimed to be coming from Okene, failed to give a credible explanation of his possession of the item.

He has been transferred to the SCID for further investigations, according to police authorities which also confirmed the arrest of three suspected armed robbers in Agbede Community in the day at about 1545 hours.

Acting on credible intelligence, operatives of Agbede Division, led by the DPO, raided a hotel in Agbede and arrested three suspected armed robbers identified as Suleiman Aliyu (25), Abdulrazak Ogbesor (36), Inusemiu Abdulrouf (36) and their ages.

A search conducted led to the recovery of:
– Two automatic pump-action guns
– One locally made single-barreled shotgun
– Two live cartridges
– One expended cartridge
– A Lexus SUV (Reg. No. ABUJA RSH-721-BF)
– A Toyota Tacoma pickup (Reg. No. LAGOS KJA-840-JQ)
– Charms and other items, police said the suspects have been transferred to the SCID for further investigation.
