Body of motorcyclist swept to death by flood recovered in Edo

Brave Scavengers have recovered the corpse of the motorcyclist, Frank Omoruyi who was swept to his death by flood during Tuesday’s heavy rainfall along Uhiele-Opoji road at Ekpoma in Esan West Local Government Area of Edo State.

Tragedy struck while the victim lost control of his motorcycle marked: Delta: AGB 130WL, while
attempting to maneuver a flooded portion of the road connecting Ekpoma to Igueben after effort by witnesses to rescue him failed.

Two other motorcycle riders along with th it passengers, caught in the fatal web, survived the sever storm, following the prompt intervention by concerned citizens who wailed uncontrollably.

The Scavengers who were paid by the victim’s family members were swallowed up in shock and heartbreak when the body of cocoa dealer was pulled out from the burrow pit dug by road construction company, barely 24 hours after the tragic incident.

Angry residents and sympathizers besiege the scene, expressed disappointment over the lack of empathy displayed by authorities of Esan West Local Government Area during the recovery process.

A resident of the area, Pastor Smart Otoide, said, “it was with the help of two in gentlemen who removed his body from the flood”.

Also speaking, Samuel Osarebkhoe, said, “we hired two guys. They were so courageous. We paid them handsomely. So, they were able to bring it out from the mud.

“He (Omoruyi) use to be our member. He was a Cocoa buyer, and he use to be a very good friend. We have been here since morning just to make sure that we recover the remains.

A witness, Louis Enabulu said, “since yesterday (Tuesday) till now, no Local Government Council has been here. Except area boys and area girls that have been here since morning to recover the man from the burrow pit.

“We are coming out tomorrow. They (construction company) will stop that project. They can’t be doing road to come and kill us here. If they can’t provide gutters and cuvets, we will block that road. Nobody will pass there until they come to our aid”, he Enabulu vowed.

The deceased was thereafter taken into a waiting ambulance to an undisclosed morgue for preservation by his family members.
