A soldier in the Nigerian Army has been shot dead during a violent clash involving a police officer in Futuk, in the Alkaleri Local Government Area of Bauchi State.
A witness who requested anonymity told Channels television that the police inspector attached to the Mobile Police Unit (MOPOL), was escorting a truck allegedly loaded with mineral resources belonging to a Chinese mining company.

The minerals were suspected to have been illegally mined from the Yalo mining sites, according to the report.
Spokesman of the Nigeria Policein Bauchi State Command, SP Ahmad Wakili, confirmed the incident, but did not give “further details will be provided after the on-the-spot assessment”.
Also, Major Atang Hallet Solomon, the Acting Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, 33 Artillery Brigade, Major, confirmed the incident but declined to provide further details, citing an ongoing investigation.
According to him, “Our relationship with the police remains cordial, and a joint investigation is underway to determine the immediate and remote causes of the incident,” Major Solomon.
The spokesman, revealed that the content and ownership of the truck could not be confirmed until the investigation was concluded.
He also confirmed that while the truck driver fled the scene, the police officer involved is currently in custody.
