The Candidate of Labour Party in the September 21 2024 Edo governorship election, Mr Olumide Osaigbovo Akpata has pledged
adequate funding for Basic Education including children with special educational needs and keep Children safe if elected.
Bit, he decried the decay infrastructure in most public schools under the administration of Governor Godwin Obaseki as ‘pathetic and tragic”.
The former President of the Nigerian Bar Association made the assertion when he featured on Monday June 24th June Independent Television Radio programme monitored in Benin City.
He said, “Education is light, it liberates the mind. In my opinion, some schools I have seen in Edo State ought not to be inhabited by human beings, but chickens.
“Chickens are supposed to be kept there. So, it’s pathetic and tragic. Labour Party will deal with infrastructure, build schools for our Children”, Akpata said.
According to him, “What is happening today is that our Children sit on sand to be copy notes. The present Governor tauts EdoBest. I have personally gone round the State. There is nothing in Edo State Educational system”.
Mr Akpata also promised to prioritize improve remuneration of teachers, training of teachers and improve on Curricula to scale up innovative ideas and boundless creativity.
He said his government will not spend public funds on frivolities, but prioritize the needs of the greater number of people if he wins the forthcoming election.
The LP Candidate also assured of adequate funding of security agencies with security vote and support them in the procurement of hardware towards combating crimes in the State if elected.
“We have police and Department of State Security Service (DSS) in the State; Even though the Agencies are controlled by the federal government, they need tracking equipment and technology. Help them with vehicles as we have in Abia State”, he said.
