Controversy is trailing the alleged attack on Kogi State governor, Yahaya Bello near the Naval Base. The Base is few kilometers from Lokoja, the State Capital.
Mr Femi Fanwo, the Media aide to the Governor, said the attack occurred at 12:30p.m on Saturday.
Fanwo, blamed the incident on thugs acting at the behest of the main opposition party in the State.
According to him, governor “Bello, was targeted in an attack by individuals believed to be supporters of Alhaji Muritala Yakubu Ajaka”.
He alleged that armed individuals allegedly affiliated with Ajaka’s camp then began firing shots at the Governor’s convoy, upon sighting the Governor’s convoy, the hoodlums allegedly proceeded to block the road.
The statement said a Tundra vehicle bearing the inscription of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) and SDP flags obstructed the Governor’s vehicle.
It also explained that occupants of the SDP-branded Tundra were reportedly armed with rifles and short guns.
But supporters of Alhaji Muritala Yakubu Ajaka, dismissed the claims by the Governor’s aide.
They alleged that Governor Yahaya Bello’s thugs made the attack.
A statement by police authorities in Kogi State Command in connection with the incident, is being awaited.
But, some Nigerians in social Media Community, have dismissed the report on the Governor’s convoy’s attack, describing the claim as misplaced and diversionary.
