Police arrest suspected owners of gun found with slain musician by dismissed Cop in Delta

Date:

Police operatives have arrested the owners of the fire arm that was reportedly recovered from 28-year-old musician Oghenemine Ogidi who was extra-judicially murdered by dismissed ASP Usman Nuhu on April 26, 2026 in Effurun, Uvwie Local Government Area of Delta State.

Nuhu is standing trial on a one-count charge of murder, the other defendants—ASPs Owoloko Daurou Pamo and Okoh Kelechi, and Inspectors Goodluck Kingsley while Omonigho Ahweyevu—are facing charges of negligent acts causing harm, accordingly.

The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Disu has confirmed the arrest of criminal suspect while briefing journalists on Tuesday in Abuja where he stated that complaints against Nigeria police officers have reduced tremendously.

He revealed that five dismissed police officers who were arrested and arraigned before Justice M. Nduka of the Delta State High Court 4 in Asaba in connection with the alleged murder had been remanded on orders of a High Court.

The Inspector General of Police noted that impunity has reduced in the Nigeria police Force under his leadership to the barest minimum while assuring that there will be no sacred cows.

Five dismissed police officers, including Usman Nuhu pleaded not guilty to charges arising from the alleged extra-judicial killing of 28-year-old musician Oghenemine Ogidi.

IGP Disu said, “As I speak with you, dismissed police officers are still in prison and the case is still going on. And a lot of other arrests have been made following the issue of the gun”.

According to him, “Don’t forget that it started with the issue of the gun. The gun was supposed to be transported and it was discovered. So, we have found out where the gun was coming from. Some arrest have been made ― owners of the gun have been arrested”.

IGP Disu also directed all Commissioners of Police nationwide to deepen engagements with traditional rulers, religious leaders, schools, worship Centres, Community Associations and local Stakeholders for effective crime prevention.
