Operatives of the Nigeria police Command in Bauchi State have taken a 40-year-old man, Clement Anthony into its custody for allegedly killing his neighbour with a locally made single-barrel gun at Unguwar Ngas in Bauchi Local Government Area.
In a statement, the Command’s spokesman, SP Nafiu Habib identified the victim as 55-years-old Jacob Bature of Mai area, died after sustaining a serious gunshot injury to his ribs
at ATBU Teaching Hospital, Bauchi.
He disclosed that the brutal attack occured on 19th July 2026 at about 2030hrs and was reported at ‘A’ Division Township Division of the police, Bauchi, on same day by a complaint.
The statement revealed that the murder suspect who intentionally fired the fatal gunshot attack on the victim will be charged with culpable homicide and unlawful possession of a locally made firearm.
The victim’s corpse had been deposited at the hospital morgue for further investigation, while the arm and a live cartridge have been recovered by the police.
“He (Bature) was immediately rushed to ATBU Teaching Hospital, Bauchi, where a medical doctor examined him and confirmed him dead as a result of the gunshot. The corpse has since been deposited at the hospital morgue for further investigation.
“The complainant stated that on the same date at about 1900hrs, while at Unguwar Ngas, Inkil, Bauchi, one Clement Anthony, male, 40-years-old, of the same address, armed himself with a locally made single-barrel gun and intentionally fired it at Mr. Jacob Bature, male, 55-years-old Mai Anguwan Ngas, also of the same address”, according to the police.
The police spokesman revealed that the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) Bauchi for discreet investigation, while assuring the murder suspect will be charged to court upon conclusion of investigation.
Responding, the Commissioner of Police, CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu, condemned the act and assured members of the public that the police Command remains committed to ensuring that perpetrators of violent crimes are brought to justice.
