Two bandits killed, N10m ransom recovered in Kano ambush ―police

Date:

Local hunters in Kano State’s Doguwa Local Government Area ambushed a group of suspected bandits in Falgore Forest, killing two of them and recovering ₦10 million in ransom money previously collected from a hostage.

The spokesperson for the Kano State Police Command, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, disclosed this in a statement on Saturday.

He stated that the hoodlums, believed to have operated from Falgore Forest and suspected to be from Maigwanda Village in Kubau LGA, Kaduna State, met their waterloo around midnight on October 17, 2026, after collecting a ₦10,000,000 ransom for the release of the hostage.

According to the police, the bandits had abducted 45-year-old Kabiru Aliyu of Falgore Village, Doguwa LGA, on September 11, 2026, keeping him in captivity for several weeks.

”Upon collection of the ransom, the victim was released unharmed. However, while the suspects were returning to their hideout in Falgore Forest shortly after collecting the money, they were ambushed by local hunters known as ‘Yan Bula’,” Kiyawa stated.

”During the ambush, two of the suspected bandits were neutralized, while the third suspect escaped with injuries. The entire ransom sum of Ten Million Naira (N10,000,000.00) was recovered intact from the neutralized suspects,” he added.

”Preliminary investigation revealed the identity of one of the neutralized suspects as Dogo Isah, a commercial motorcycle rider (Okada) from Maigwanda Village, Kubau LGA, Kaduna State”.

Reacting to the incident, the Commissioner of Police, Kano State Police Command, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, commended the resilience and commitment of the ‘Yan Bula’ hunters, whose efforts continue to complement Operation Kukan Kura in securing the Falgore Forest axis and its environs.

Consequently, the Commissioner has directed the Area Commander, Divisional Police Officers, and tactical teams within the axis to immediately comb the area to arrest the fleeing suspect and recover their operational weapons.

According to the police, the rescued victim has been debriefed, medically examined, and reunited with his family.

The police command reaffirmed its commitment to protecting lives and property, while urging the public to continue providing timely and credible information.
