Two suspected drug users arrested in failed attempted child stealing

Operatives of the Nigeria police Command in Abia State have arrested two suspected drug users for attempted child stealing in Olokoro Community of the State.

 

The Command’s spokesperson, DSP Maureen Chinaka, said in a statement on Saturday that acting on actionable intelligence, police officers of Command, in collaboration with the Community Vigilante, led to the suspects arrest.

 

The suspects, identified as Nzubechi Chinagorom, male, 24 years, of Olokoro, Umuahia South LGA and Chinonso Chibundu, male, 25 years, of Olokoro, Umuahia South LGA of the State, were apprehended on May 25, 2026, when they went to the residence of one Miss Amarachi Chinyereugo, female, 32 years, of same address.

 

The statement revealed that Nzubechi Chinagorom attempted to forcibly take away her 2-week-old baby girl, which resulted in a struggle with the mother.

 

In the process, he assaulted her and stabbed her with a kitchen knife, causing the child to fall and hit her head, according to the statement, which also revealed that Chinonso Chibundu remained outside the house, acting as a lookout.

 

“Following the victim’s distress call, both suspects fled the scene but were later apprehended at a nearby bus stop, where they were reportedly found taking substances suspected to be hard drugs”, the splice said.

 

Accordingly, “The mother and child were immediately rushed to the hospital, where they received treatment and have since recovered”.

 

In addition, “The suspects were apprehended, exhibits were recovered and investigation has been conducted at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), suspects will be charged to court on June 2, 2026.

 

In the meantime, The Command has reiterated its commitment to its constitutional mandate of protecting lives and property.

 

It also advised residents of the state to partner with the police in crime prevention by reporting any security concerns to the nearest police station or through the police Command’s emergency hotlines.
