Netizens on social media space have endorsed Governor Monday Okpebholo’s decision, sacking two of his aides (hype men), including Emmanuel Akpan popular known as ‘Egogo’ as part of measures to redeem the government’s image.
Akpan who rides on the slogan of no’mind them’, notoriety reached an alarming proportion when he publicly threatened to attack opposition figures, including Peter Obi, former Presidential Candidate of the Labour party in 2023 election if they step their feet into Edo State, ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Akpan, a self-acclaimed socialite joined Okpebholo campaign train in 2024 Governorship election in Edo State, made the comments the presence of the Commissioner of Police in Edo State, CP Monday Agbonika.
Agbonika, who was amongst dignitaries awaiting the arrival of President Bola Tinubu son, Seyi, and coordinator of the City Boys movement at the arrival hall of the Benin airport recently.
In a viral video, Egogo began to stoke the hornet nest when. He walked up the CP Agbonika and pledged his loyalty, stating that he and his Principal bears ‘Monday’ they are doing white jobs well.
“CP, I am loyal to you. When we catch ADC, when we catch APC people, we will handover them to you – straight to Abuja. People like Obi, that idiot”, Egogo said, while the CP smiled and maintained his cool.
TheNewspad reports that the alleged inaction by the Commissioner of police, who look on when ‘Egogo’ issued the threat, while onlookers cringed, is being criticized by netizens on the internet for seemingly not having the bandwidth to order his arrest as expected, stirred backlash online.
“You cannot be in government and behave like a nuisance, constantly embarrassing the system you’re meant to represent.
“Kudos to Monday Okpebholo for finally taking action. Leadership is not about tolerating noise makers—it’s about discipline and protecting the integrity of the government.
“Public office is not for clout chasing or empty hype. If you can’t represent Edo State with sense and responsibility, then you have no business being there.
“Let this be a clear warning: that the government is not a playground, and those who can’t act right will be shown the door. That is the way governments are supposed to be run”, according to posts gleaned on Facebook.
