EXCLUSIVE: How hit-and-run driver crushed fuel attendant to death, escaped with N30,000 petrol in Edo

Tragedy struck when a hit-and-run driver crushed a fuel attendant to death at a popular filling station

in Eyaen, Uhunmwode Local Government Area of Edo State, Saturday after a heated argument.

A yet-to-be identified dangerous car driver whose number plate could not be verified immediately, fled after causing the death of the victim identified only as Amadin during a fight.

The scuffle was caused by a N30,000 fake Bank alert the murder suspect reportedly sent to the a nearby Point of Sale (PoS) machine, after servicing his vehicle with petrol, was discovered by the petrol attendant.

It was gathered that the victim when he attempted to block the vehicle from leaving the petrol station during the rage, but the male suspect overpowered Amadin and crashed his car over Amadin.

The squeal of tires and brakes could be heard as the car raced down the busy Eyaen road after tragedy, according to witnesses wailed uncontrollably when they saw Amadin with bruised lying motionless.

Witnesses also said Amadin’s fate was tested when the driver drove into the fuel dump and requested some liters of petrol worth N30,000 from the victim, who responded without hesitation to resist the move having discovered driver’s ulterior motive.

Trouble started when the 31-year-old victim, threatened the criminal suspect to either pay him in cash else have his vehicle impounded.

The disagreement caught the attention of other drivers while the petrol station owner who was in his office at the petrol station, slumped on-the-spot, when he learned of the tragedy.

Investigation revealed that the owner of business owner was hurled into a vehicle and taken to an undisclosed hospital for immediate medical attention.

Business activities at the petrol station was immediately shutdown after the horrific incident where the driver crashed his vehicle over Amadin who stood in front of the moving vehicle whose engine was revved by the murder suspect.

The victim’s Aunt told TheNewspad that the 31-year-old petrol attendant, was the breadwinner in his family.

She said Amadin’s father was called to identify his son at a morgue after police operatives stormed the crime scene and evaluated his body.

She said, “Amadin was so loved by the owner of the petrol station and his parents because he was diligent in his duty”.

“He helped to raise some money from his savings for his mother to start petty trading at his own shop he formerly used for haircut before he started working at the petrol station”, she said.

A top police officer who stays in the jurisdiction where the tragic incident occurred, assured that the culprit would be apprehended in due time, lamenting however that the tragedy could have been avoided.
