NIDCOM demands action on slain Nigerian in India

Date:

The Federal government of Nigeria has demanded a thorough investigation into a alleged murder of a Nigerian citizen, Emeka Christian, hacked to death in Pune, India.

NIDCOM said Christian was allegedly beaten to death by two fellow Nigerians, 31-year-old Chukwudi Okafor, and Samuel Eze, following a dispute described as romantic in nature.

The Nigerians in Diaspora Commission, NIDCOM, confirmed this in a statement endorsed by Director of Media, Public Relations and Protocol, Abdur-Rahman Balogun.

Expressing deep grief over the unfortunate incident, the agency appealed to relevant Indian authorities to conduct a thorough and transparent investigation, ensuring that justice is served without delay”.

The Commission also urged Nigerians living abroad to conduct themselves responsibly, noting that their actions reflect on the Country’s image.

“As ambassadors of our great nation in your respective domains, your actions abroad reflect on Nigeria’s image,” according to the statement.

The Commission further said violence should never be an option, encouraging unity, mutual respect, and lawful behaviour among Nigerians in the diaspora.

Advising Nigerians in diaspora to support one another and resolve disputes through peaceful dialogue at all times, NIDCOM said, “Violence has no place among us. Together, we can build a stronger and more positive diaspora Community”.
