A 4-Day free medical outreach in collaboration with Omo N’ Oba N’ Edo, Uku Akpolokpolo, Ewuare II, CFR, Oba of Benin and the Management of University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH) with a socio-cultural Organization, Aiguobasinmwin Movement, has kicked-off ahead of the forthcoming 2025 annual Igue festival in Oba Palace in Benin City.

The intervention tagged: “Pre-Igue Festival Medical Outreach”, is aimed at reducing the health burden and assist vulnerable population who may not easily access care due to financial, geographic, or social challenges.
In her goodwill remarks, the Chief Medical Director, Professor Idia Nibokun Ize-Iyamu, emphasized the importance of early detection, healthy lifestyle choices, and routine medical check-up.
“I encourage everyone present to take advantage of this opportunity and resolve to be more attentive to their health going forward”, the Chief Medical Director said while commending the Oba of Benin for being a guardrail of Benin customs and tradition.
The UBTH Chief Medical Director urged residents of the State to prioritize their health and well-being, assuring that dedication to delivering quality medical services to the Community.
On his part, Secretary, Benin Traditional Council, Frank Irabor, who was joined by other Palace Chiefs, commended UBTH Management alongside a team of medical personnel and residents who participated in essential health checks, consultations, screenings, and received medications.
Chief Sunday Agho, the Asuen of Benin, offered prayers for the Management of the tertiary health institution, while Dr. Philip Osho, DCMAC at UBTH also highlighted the essence of the free medical outreach, which would end in Friday December 12th 2025 at the Palace.
President of Aiguobasinmwin Movement, Osaro Culture Iyamu equally commended the UBTH for the support in making the medical outreach a reality, asserting that the initiative is a call to duty and their selfless service by the group to the highly revered Benin monarchy at all times.
Chief Sunday Agho offered prayers for the UBTH management for providing the free medical outreach to the people in Edo State ahead of the annual Igue festival.
Also speaking, Dr. Philip Oshio, DCMAC UBTH, reaffirmed that the 4 days event has attracted numerous patients and is expected to provide services to about 3000 in the coming days.
He revealed that that ailments handled at the free medical outreach, include, Malaria, Diabetes, Hypertension, Ophthalmology examinations, and Dental conditions, among other aliments.
During the event where a Public Health Nurse, Beatrice Osagie gave a brief health talk on the need for citizens embark on regular medical check up and safeguard themselves against preventable deaths.
Highpoint was the presentation of medical kits to the Oba of Benin, represented by some Chiefs who were joined by the Secretary Benin Traditional Council, Frank Irabor by the Chief Medical Director of UBTH at the palace.
