Two Benue ‘motorcycle thieves’ lynched to death

Two suspects motorcycle thieves who were captured by members of the public opposite the BIPC Company in George Akume Way in Benue State have been lynched to death, police said.

Spokesperson of the Nigeria Police Command in Benue State, DSP Udeme Edet said on Friday in a statement that the suspects were attacked before the arrival of the police at the crime scene.

The police image maker stated that the suspects were confirmed dead at the Federal Medical Centre, Wadata, where they were confirmed dead by a doctor.

“Their remains have been deposited at the hospital mortuary. The State CID has taken over the investigation”, DSP Edet recalled, “On 20th November 2025, at about 1830hrs, the Command received a distress call regarding a reported stolen Bajaj motorcycle tracked to a compound along George Akume Way, Makurdi”.

“Police patrol teams arrived at the scene and discovered a large gathering of youths”, according to the statement explained that “Upon entry into the premises, eleven suspected stolen motorcycles, 47 motorcycle seats, fuel tanks, criminal charms, three mattresses, a single-barrel firearm, and other items were recovered” police said.
