EFCC links Ighodalo's witness to alleged N6bn fraud

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has linked Jonathan Okunbor, trailed by its operatives at a popular hotel on Tuesday in Benin City, Edo State over alleged misappropriation of (N,600, 000, 000) billion linked to the 18 Local Government Areas.

Okunbor, is thought to be a star witness for the Candidate of Peoples Democratic Party in Saturday September 21st Edo State governorship election in a video being circulated by Ighodalo supporters.

Dele Oyewale, EFCC’s spokesman in Wednesday in a statement, vowed that Okunbor wanted for N6 billion fraud, involving his firm, Kezmith Global Ventures.

Oyewale, clarified that the alleged fugitive is not a witness of the PDP, in the election tribunal as claimed by Mr. Asue Ighodalo in the video, noting that the suspect was running the ventures using the name and identity of Mr. Godfrey Emode.

Rather, Okunbor is a prime suspect connected to a case of misappropriation of funds involving all the 18 Local Government Areas of Edo State.

Oyewale said, “The Commission’s investigators, in their quest to unearth the shadiness of Ogunbor, arrested Emode who led them to the suspect in Eterno Hotel where a pre-trial meeting was being held”.

The statement partly reads, “The attention of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has been drawn to a trending video insinuating that Mr. Jonathan Okunbor, a suspect being investigated for an alleged N6 billion fraud, was an election witness.

“The Commission wishes to state without any equivocation that Okunbor is not a witness of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in the election tribunal as claimed by Mr. Asue Ighodalo and his co-travellers at the Hotel prevented EFCC officers from carrying out their constitutional duty.

It also accused them of obstructing EFCC operatives from arresting Ogunbor whom Ighodalo insisted was his witness in his case during the encounter.

“Rather, he is a prime suspect connected to a case of misappropriation of funds involving all the 18 local government areas of Edo State”, according to the EFCC spokesman who further clarified that EFCC gas no Business with Edo Election Witness that has no Corruption Issue”.
