Borno State government has blamed the flood disaster that ravaged parts of the State on suspected cholera disease that infected 451 persons across five Local Government Areas in the State.
The State Commissioner for Health and Humanitarian Services, Prof. Baba Gana, who confirmed the figure while briefing the Media, however said the State is yet to record any cholera related death, assuring that the government has set up health facilities to manage the situation.
He said, “we are recording increasing number of acute watery diarrhea, which is suspicious of cholera. This is not unconnected with the flood devastation. And the Ministry of Health recorded 451 cases of acute watery diarrhea”, Gana said.
Prof. Gana revealed that fumigation of Internally Displaced Camps, have been carried out by the government.
The Commissioner acknowledged the receipt of 400,000 dozes of vaccines in addition to 3000 cholera vaccines from the Federal Ministry of Health, with additional dozes being awaited.
In the mean time, the World Health Organization (WHO) has made a donation of Healthcare equipment to the Borno State government to help curb the outbreak of cholera.
Other humanitarian donor agencies are also collaborating with the government in addressing the menace.
