A mother and her child have been feared killed in a road crash in front of Adesuwa police station commonly referred to as ‘Area Command’ in Oredo Local government Area of Edo State.
On Saturday afternoon tragedies which occurred at Sapele Road traffic light by First East Circular Road junction, involves a black Honda car and articulated truck loaded with soft drinks belonging company in Benin.
Sources said the family of five were said to be transiting from Benin City to the eastern part of Nigeria for the new year celebration, when the truck rammed into the them behind.
It was leant that three other injured travellers in the car were immediately evacuated and taken to a nearby health facility for urgent medical attention.
Break failure, according to the driver of the truck without Registration number, who was immediately taken into police custody, caused the fatal crash.
It was also leant that some passerby who rushed to the accident scene, bailed the two bags of rice that littered the floor, while the driver of the car wept profusely.
Police operatives however prevented passersby from tampering with the remaining two bags bags of rice the car.
The personnel thereafter impounded the two vehicles at the police station for further investigation.
A witness simply identified himself as Mr Lucky, lamented the carnage, stating that the wife of the driver of the articulated truck, put to bed recently.
He said,” I didn’t know that police personnel can sometimes be swift during operation. They did not just only cleared the traffic gridlock, maybe because it involved human lives. Mother and child are gone just like that”.
Meanwhile, a suspected cultist shot dead at Ogida market at about 6:30am on Saturday morning by yet-to-be identified assailant.
The tragedy caused pandemonium among pedestrians and motorists as well as traders at the market which was deserted for few hours.
Over 11 persons including a Broadcast journalist with Independent Television station (ITV) had been confirmed dead by the police since the renewed cult war began in some parts of Edo State, while scores of suspects have been arrested in connection with the crime by the police.
