54 fake Corps members demobilized, face trial

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has confirmed the demobilization of 54 illegally mobilised graduates of the University of Calabar (UNICAL) in addition to 101 graduates from the institution, bringing the total of illegally mobilized NYSC members that were previously deployed into the scheme to 178.

Spokesman for the Scheme, Mr Eddy Megwa on Saturday in a statement said the move was aimed at preventing the award of Certificates of National Service to unqualified persons.

The statement issued on behalf of the Director General of the NYSC, Brigadier-General Yusha’u Ahmed, noted that the illegal graduates will be prosecuted accordingly.

The statement, commended the Vice Chancellor of University of Calabar, Prof. Florence Obi for exposing the shady deal.

Megwa, alleged that a bread seller who did not attend the University of Calabar is one of the “graduates” fraudulently mobilised for the scheme by the institution.
