3 highway robbers killed, 17 Kaduna hostages freed

Three member of about 30 armed robbers who engaged a gang that engaged police operatives in a fierce gun battle with police operatives have been neutralized in Doggi Farm, located on the Kaduna–Abuja Expressway.

Two of the robbers were neutralized during the exchange of gunfire, while others, including two other arrested injured suspects one of which died the Umaru Musa Yar’Adua Memorial Hospital, Sabon Wuse where he was receiving treatment.

Police Force spokesman, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi who spoke at a Media briefing on Thursday, said the other is alive and currently assisting the Police with further investigation.

A Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Tafa Division swiftly mobilized a patrol team to the scene in response to a distress call from the police Command on 9th April 2025 at about 0500 hours, from a Good Samaritan reporting an armed robbery in progress at Doggi Farm, located along the Kaduna–Abuja Expressway.

He said, “Upon arrival, they engaged a gang of about 30 armed robbers, who had earlier invaded the premises, in a fierce gun battle.

“Two other injured suspects were apprehended and taken to the Umaru Musa Yar’Adua Memorial Hospital, Sabon Wuse, for treatment.

“Unfortunately, one of them was later confirmed dead, while the other is alive and currently assisting the Police with further investigation”, the police spokesman said.

In the same vein, operatives of the Kaduna State Police Command’s Anti-Kidnapping Unit, in conjunction with the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA), rescued 17 hostages.

ACP Adejobi said they were abducted on 3rd March 2025 from Sarkin Pawa, Niger State on 9th April 2025, in a remarkable feat of inter-agency collaboration and strategic intelligence deployment.

The Force spokesman explained that the operation was notably achieved through intelligence-driven non-kinetic approach.

He gave the names of the hostages as Williams Ubadia (15), Samuel Ezekiel (15), Duza Ezekiel (13), Ishaku Ishaya (12) and Sunday Ezekiel (8).

Also included are Jessy Friday, Rebecca Ezekiel (32), Jummai Ishaya (32), Terriza Friday (30) and Alice Ezekiel (35) as well as Victoria Ishaya (32).

Other hostages are Blessing Ezekiel (20), Gloria Ubadia (13), Gift Ubadia (10), Charity Ezekiel (9), Alheri Ishaya (5), and Favour Ezekiel (1).

“All rescued individuals were promptly taken to the Police Clinic in Kaduna for medical examination and have been certified to be in stable and sound health”, he said.
