Renowned political economist and management expert, Professor Pat Utomi, has criticized the Federal Government’s economic blueprint, despite the reported 4.43% year-on-year GDP growth in the second quarter of 2026.
Appearing on Arise Television’s Prime Time with anchor Charles Aniagolu on Tuesday, Utomi argued that Nigeria has been “stuck in the mud” for too long.
He dismissed the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) ideology that the administration is steering the country in a positive direction.
When asked about his political stance and satisfaction with the nation’s economic outlook, the former presidential candidate stated that he has no regrets leaving the African Democratic Congress (ADC), despite previously helping to draft its manifesto.
Reflecting on his early aspirations for the country, Utomi shared a personal disappointment: ”I left grad school at 26. My firm belief was that by the time I turned 60, Nigeria’s GDP per capita would be $30,000.
But as I approach 70, the GDP per capita is hovering around $1,000.”
Answering questions regarding his current political affiliations and potential mistrust, Utomi clarified, “I am in the Nigeria Democratic Congress,” adding, “I think they have enough of my history to know that this is my way.”
Reiterating his unwavering stance on national issues, the veteran politician concluded, “I can sit with any of them on any podium anywhere in the world to tell them that they are not correct.”
