Fatal tile-related slips have claimed the lives of an artisan and a landlord in separate incidents across Edo State, sparking fresh safety concerns over home and workplace hazards.
In the first incident, a middle-aged artisan known as Alex slipped in the courtyard of his family home on Agadagudu Street, off Television Road, Oredo Local Government Area.
Family sources reported that the victim slammed his skull onto newly laid ceramic tiles and was pronounced dead before reaching the hospital.
The tragedy has left the aged mother of the victim, popularly known as Mama Ogunmola, and other members of his family heartbroken.
A similar tragedy occurred three months ago in Ohoghobi community of Ikpoba-Okha Local Government Area, where a dark skin sexagenarian landlord suffered a fatal head injury.
The victim slipped backwards on bathroom tiles, leaving his wife waiting outside for 30 minutes before she forced the door open to find him in a pool of blood.
Investigation revealed that the victim too was rushed to a nearby clinic, where he was confirmed dead by a physician.
The back-to-back tragedies have sparked safety panic amongst residents and renewed urgent calls for caution regarding slick flooring materials and the hidden dangers they pose in domestic and commercial spaces.
