UNIBEN Senate honours out-going VC, Salami

The University of Benin (UNIBEN) Senate has held a special meeting of the body to honour the out-going 10th Vice Chancellor of the Institution, Professor Lilian Salami, for her exemplary stewardship.

Public Relations officer of the University, Dr (Mrs) Benedicta Ehanire said on Thursday in a statement that Professor after Professor eulogised the VC for maintaining high standards and reputation both for herself and the Institution.

The statement said the out-going VC was praised for not compromising on the quality of decisions in the course of administering the University and for delivering excellent service.

Professor Salami,. according to the statement, was also commended for her industry and for navigating her way to success even when things appeared bleak.

In her valedictory address to the Senate, Professor Salami said she was more than glad that the exercise to produce her successor was smooth and rancour free.

The out-going Vice Chancellor went down memory lane to recall incidents in her career that culminated in the position that she will be vacating on the 1st of December, this year and acknowledged that indeed God is kind to her.

The Professor of Human Nutrition and Hospitality thanked the Senate, and by extension, the University Community for according her maximum support throughout her event – packed tenure.

She enjoined them to extend same to her successor who she described as focused and a visioner.

Professor Salami received a standing ovation from the Senate for sterling performance as Vice Chancellor of the University of Benin.

Present at the special meeting were the in-coming Vice Chancellor and learned silk, Professor Edoba Omoregie, SAN, and Principal Officers of the University as well as Professors emeriti.
