UNIBEN expands digital space for 4th industrial Educational training

The Management of University of Benin (UNIBEN) has expanded its digital space with cutting-edge technology for a 4th Industrial Educational training, marking a turning point in administration, Faculties, Departments among other areas in the tertiary institution.

Vice Chancellor of the institution, Prof. Lilian Salami said the equipment is met to promote teaching and learning for students and enhance administrative activities across Faculties and Departments, including presentation of public lectures.

Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof. Lilian Salami shared insight on breakthroughs while addressing journalists at the ahead of the 49th/50th Conviction and 54th Founder’s Day briefing in Benin City.

She said over additional 200 (Two hundred Desktops and laptops Computers for the institution’s ICT Centre for Computer based examination and across Departments, provision of internet facilities, installation of Organic Light-Emitting Diode (OLED) at the renovated Akin Deko Auditorium and the Senate Chamber, Automation of Registry and Bursary Departments geared towards embracing full technological driven education in the school.

The VC also said the renovation of Mass Communication studios, at Ekehuan Campus, is equipped with modern Media and communication gadgets towards ensuring robust and vibrant intellectual climate at the University.

Prof. Salami explained that during her tenure as Vice Chancellor, over 111 valedictory lectures were held in the institution, which has also recorded midas touch — green and therapeutic ambience, fit for cerebral focus to improves teaching and learning experience of staff and its students.

“The University has acquired over one hundred additional desktop Computers for computer-based examinations for the ICT Centre and over two hundred Desk-tops and lap-top Computers distributed across Departments and Units to facilitate cutting-edge technology-driven assignments. These are aided by the provision of internet services, some of which are undertaken directly by many of the faculties.

“Projectors which have become obsolete have been replaced by Organic Light-Emitting Diode (OLED). The multi million Naira, Multi-media gadgets have been installed and functioning at the renovated Akin Deko Auditorium and the Senate Chamber.

“The system has revolutionised visual presentation of public lectures especially the Inaugural and valedictory lectures thus adding beauty and elegance to the intellectual activities of the University.

“University has held a record one hundred Inaugural lectures and eleven Valedictory lectures under my watch. We must commend all arms of the University that have worked hard to make this feat possible.
By these activities, the University of Benin has witnessed robust and vibrant intellectual climate”, she said.

Professor Salami also highlighted other achievements recorded to includes construction of Institute of Child Health Building at UBTH,
Optometry Buildings (I & II)
Medical Staff Offices at UBTH, construction of twin Medical Lecture Theatres at UBTH, Urology Centre,
Ultra-Modern Recreation Centre Ugbowo Campus, Construction of Food Technology and Nutrition Building as well as Renovation of the Old Medical Complex amongst others.

Meanwhile a total of 10,609 students are graduating in 2021/2022 academic session with 206 students recording First Class, while 3,658 students bagged Second Class Upper honours.

Similarly, 5,614 recorded Second Class lower alongside 237 students who bagged Third Class Division.

A total of 179 students are graduating with First Class among 10,021 graduating students in the the 2022/2023 academic session where 3,324 bagged Second Class Upper, while 5,585 emerged Second Class lower amongst others.

The outgoing Vice Chancellor, revealed that the University is also set to honour personalities, including with Honorary Doctorate degree.

Notable among the personalities are, Chief Leemon Ikpea, CON; Oil, Gas and Construction company Magnate, according to the VC.

Ikpea will be conferred with Doctor of Business Administration by the University in acknowledgement of his accomplishments in Business and support to the University, according to Prof. Salami who stated that Kingsley Momodu, a distinguished Alumnus and renowned Dentist will be conferred with Honorary Doctoral degree in Science during the Convocation.
