Two victims of kidnapping die in Edo hospital

Two family members have lost their lives after having an encounter with suspected Kidnappers disguising as herdsmen in Udoneria Community, Igueben Local government Area of Edo State.

The unprovoked attack at their Udoneria residence, left members of a family seriously injured, occurred about 7:45 p.m. on Friday 25th April 2025 when an unspecified number of persons were allegedly kidnapped by armed assailants.

Henshaw Elimihe, chairman of Igueben Local Government Area learnt about the tragic incident when he paid a sympathy visit to the victims who sustained gunshot injuries at an undisclosed hospital where the victims are receiving treatment.

Uyi Ewanseha, Chief Press Secretary to the Local Government Council Chairman confirmed this on Saturday in a statement, which did not give names of the victims at the solemn moment in hospital.

He assured families of kidnapped victims that the government is intensifying efforts to ensure their safe return while seeking divine intervention.

He said, “Regrettably, during the Chairman’s visit to the hospital where the victims are receiving treatment, it was confirmed that two members of the family succumbed to the severe injuries sustained during the attack”.

The Council Chairman, expressed his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family and assured them of the Local Government’s support during this difficult time, assuring residents that measures are being taken to curb further occurrences.

Ewanseha said, “Earlier today, the Executive Chairman of Igueben Local Government Area, Hon. Hon. Henshaw Elimihe , paid a sympathy visit to the victims of the unfortunate attack carried out by suspected Fulani kidnappers in Udoneria Community”.

The Council boss also urged members of the public to remain vigilant and security-conscious as efforts continue to apprehend the perpetrators and bring them to justice.

According to statement, “In immediate response to this tragic event, the Council Chairman has directed the strengthening of security presence within and around Udoneria Community”.

“Furthermore, he has promptly reported the situation to the Edo State Government, soliciting enhanced collaboration to decisively address the growing threat of criminal activities in the region”, according to the statement.
