Tragedy hits former INEC chairman’s family

The family of Professor Attahiru Jega, former chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has suffered a tragedy, following the death of his mother, Hajiya Hauwa Kulu Muhammadu Jega.

Several Nigerians, including former President of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari have started sending tributes to the family or the Jega over the transition of the Matriarch, who died after a brief illness in Abuja.

“There is no greater loss than that of a mother. I would like to express my deepest condolences for the passing of your beloved mother. May her soul rest in peace.

“Please know that you and your family are in my thoughts and prayers. I hope that you will find solace and comfort in the good deeds she left behind. May All grant her Aljannul Firdaus”, former President Buhari wrote.

Jega midwife the 2015 general election that ended the 16-year- government of Peoples Democratic Party, following the defeat of the them incumbent administration of Dr Goodluck Jonathan in 2015 Presidential election, which was won by Muhammadu Buhari.

Jonathan, the PDP Presidential Candidate in that election he conceded defeat and made the historic congratulatory phone call to Buhari.who was the Candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), which consists of the defunct, All Progressives Congress of Nigeria (ACN), Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) and a break away faction of All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA).

Prof. Jega, a lecturer in Bayero University in Kano State, also introduced several reforms, including BEVAS into the conduct of elections in Nigeria.
