Speaker’s aide killed 3 weeks ahead of Edo guber poll

Samson Omoarebokhae, a legislative aide to Edo State House of Assembly Speaker, Mr Blessing Agbebaku was reportedly gun down by gunmen at Ozalla on Saturday August 31st 2024 in Owan West Local Government Area of the State, ahead of the September 21 Edo governorship election.

The tragedy comes barely two months after Insp Onuh Akoh who was Candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the election, Senator Monday Okpebholo’s orderly was shot dead in his convoy by gunmen near Benin Airport exit gate in Benin City, Edo State.

Ivy Adodo, Media Aide to the Speaker, confirmed Omoarebokhae’s death on Monday September 2, 2024 in a statement where she said the Legislative Aide was murdered on his way from Ozalla.

Upon receiving news of Omoarebokhae’s death, the Speaker, deployed a high power delegation led by his Chief of Staff, Mr Odk Iruobe to condole his family.

Mr Agbebaku, Peoples Democratic Party leader in Owan West Local Government Area of the State, prayed God to repose the soul of the deceased and give the family to comfort his family and grant them the power to bear loss.

Mr. Elijah Omoarebokhai, a brother of the diseased spoke on behalf of the grieving Omoarebokhai’s family.

The Nigeria Police Command in Edo State has yet to make disclosure of its position in connection with the tragic incident as at the time of filing this report.
