Shettima, NSA Ribadu clash over stance on Boko Haram ideology

Vice President Kashim Shettima says Boko Haram should not be treated as human beings, in deference of President Bola Tinubu National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu who referred Boko Haram terrorists and bandits as “brothers” during the later’s interview with Voice of America, VOA, Hausa service in July 2025.

Shettima who spoke in a interview when he visited victims of the recent bomb blasts in Maiduguri in Borno State, condemned Boko Haram onslaught and assured that the federal government prompt response in decimate terrorism in Nigeria.

The Vice President who described the action of the perpetrators as barbaric, also expressed sympathy with families of the injured and slain victims, saying nothing justifies the killings of innocent people.

“It is tragedies because no religion sanctions the killings of innocent people by these demented monsters called Boko Haram.

“We even doubt to consider them as part of the human race. But, be rest assured that no matter how long the night might is, it must give way to the light of dawn”, he said, “we are internal optimist”.

But Ribadu, advocated the need dialogue to achieve peace, suggesting a “family issue” approach to addressing insecurity during his interview with VOA, Hausa service.
