Niger Delta activist, Annkio Briggs has warned against impending anarchy ahead of Saturday October 5th Local Government Councils election in Rivers State.
She said this during an interview on Friday African Independent Television (AIT) Kakaaki, where she expressed concern that the security crisis in Rivers threatens the nation’s sovereignty.
She called on the Presidency and National Security Adviser (NSA), Nuhu Ribadu to reign in on the dangerous political crisis between the Minister of Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike and the State governor, Similanayi Fubara to avert anarchy.
“Let me quickly declare here that I am in absolute support of the position of River State Governor has taken. What is going on in River State is very dangerous.
“It has climaxed to a very dangerous level that if the National Security Adviser, and the Presidency — all people that are seeing white are seeing white, and black as black, don’t really address the truth of the matter.
“What is going to happen very soon, will not just engulf River State alone. This is a terrible thing that is going on in River State. And we totally object and we reject it in all totality”, he said.
Recall Governor, Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State, foiled an attempt by the Nigeria Police, led by a Deputy Commissioner of Police (Operations), to take over the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC) at 1 AM on Friday, 4th October, 2024, ahead of this Saturday Local Government Councils election in the State.
The police confirmed the incident in a statement on Friday morning that it was enforcing a court order, stopping the election from holding.
The escalating tension caused by the feud between Fubara and his predecessor, the FCT Minister, Nysom Wike, over the leadership structure of the State, has attracted the attention of notable Nigerians and international community.
