Revenue collector shot dead in Edo cult violence

A revenue collector simply identified as Emmanuel, has been shot dead by suspected cultists in what is believed to be retaliatory cult-related violence in Oredo Local Government Area of Edo State.

The victim better known as ‘Meme’, was a member of Professional Drivers on Wheel.

He was allegedly brought down in the early hours of Thursday in Akugbe street, off 2nd West junction by Oliha market in Oredo Local Government Area of the State, sources said.

It was learnt that some armed men in two operational vehicles, trailed the victim from 2nd West junction into a nearby house, which he attempted to use a shelter from harm way, but a burglary proof in the residential building, prevented him from accessing the house when tragedy struck.

The gunshots, caused pandemonium among traders and residents who scampered to safety to avoid been hit by stray bullets.

Sources also stated that the victim who was shot multiple times was left in the pool of his own blood by the suspected assailants who escaped before the arrival of security personnel.

Terrified residents of the locality and traders, wailed when men of the Nigeria police from Textile Mill road Police Division arrived the crime scene while the victim’s body was been evaluated in a commercial bus to a morgue for preservation.

A witness and resident in the area, Odion Osakue said, “what happened here is a surprise to everyone”.

“Two vehicles chased a particular young man into the street. And as he was trying to escape from them, suddenly, the armed men came out from a vehicle and shot him (Emmanuel) dead with their guns”, he said.

Spokesman for the Nigeria Police Command in Edo State, SP Moses Yamu who confirmed the incident, however promised to provide details of the crime.
