Protesters storm police station after herder reportedly cut off farmer’s hand in Edo

Date:

Iguobazuwa police Division in Ovia South West Local Government Area of Edo State, was yesterday besieged by angry protesters from Amieghomwan Community in the locality where an unidentified Cattle herder horribly attacked and cut off a farmer.

The incident, according to security sources, followed a heated an argument between the middle-aged herder and the farmer over an alleged enrichment of livestock tendered by the herder, resulting in the destruction of his crops.

The attack occurred after the victim previously cautioned the male herder to stop grazing on his farmland, but herder grew angry.

The herder was alleged to have trailed the victim to his house in Amieghomwan Community and launched the brutal attack on him, barely few days after the farmer warned against the repeat of future encroachment.

Commenting on the incident on a Radio programme on Tuesday in Benin City, a resident living in the locality who preferred to be anonymous, alleged that the herder attempted to behead the farmer, but, the victim quickly blocked the machete attack with one of his hands, resulting in a deep cut on his hand.

Consequently, the herder, fled after committing the alleged crime scene, and abandoned him on the pool of his blood, according to sources.

It was also gathered that locals thereafter mobilized themselves and took the injured victim to Iguobazuwa police Division where they were encouraged by a top police officer to take the victim to nearby medical facility for urgent medical care.

The aggrieved locals who have been living under the siege of violent herdsmen in the Community with a troubled history of rising violence, were also reassured that the fleeing murder suspect will be arrested and made to face the law.
