Pregnant woman, widow arrested in NDLEA raids

A pregnant woman and widow have been arrested by operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA’s crackdown on illicit drug and trafficking in Nigeria.

The spokesman for the anti-narcotic Agency, Babafemi Femi who made the said in a statement on Sunday that they were arrested during separate raids by NDLEA last week.

He revealed that the 40-year-old widow and mother of two, Mrs. Theodora Ita, was nabbed in Cross River State, while the eight-month pregnant Favour Peter, 24, along with 27-year-old Esther Adukwu, and Ochigbo Michael, 39 at Jabi motor park in Abuja.

The statement said the suspects were intercepted a commercial bus conveying N3.2million counterfeit cash owned by three of them.

Femi explained that the Abuja suspects were caught by NDLEA agents in a follow up operation on Tuesday 9th April following the seizure of the fake naira notes in Lokoja, Kogi State.

Ita was was arrested on Monday 8th April at Bassey Edom, Calabar, by NDLEA operatives.

She was said to be producing and selling a lethal new psychoactive substance, NPS, also known as ‘Combine’. Combine’ is a mixture of different strains of cannabis and opioids soaked in raw gin.

At the time of her arrest, 18 litres of the harmful substance in empty paint drums were recovered from the suspect by the NDLEA, which also seized quantities of illicit drugs from suspected drug barons in some parts of Ekiti, Kano, Edo, Imo, Ogun and Ondo States in separate raids last week.
