Police authorities in Ogun State have condoned a farmland at Osara, nearby forest where thirty-two cows were struck dead on June 21st 2025 Saturday morning by lightning during a heavy rainfall.
Spokesperson for the Nigeria police Command in the State, CSP Omolola Odutola, following the incident at Osara in Obantoko area of Abeokuta, Odeda Local Government area of the State.
She said in a statement that two herders from Osara Community reported an unusual incident at Aregbe Divisional Headquarters in the State regarding the death of herd of Cattle at about 1640hrs.
At the time of the report, the total monetary value of the livestock could not be ascertained, according to CSP Omolola who stated that “the herders, who are jointly responsible for the livestock, suspected that the deaths may have resulted from thunderstorm with intense lightning.
“A prompt on-the-spot assessment was conducted by the Divisional Police Officer. Initial observations revealed no visible injuries or foul play on the animals”, she said.
The police Image maker also revealed that “the cattle were found lying lifeless in various positions in the forest, noting that the owners confirmed they do not suspect any individual or group, nor have they made any allegations or accusations”.
Already, the Commissioner of Police, CP Lanre Ogunlowo, urged the Community to remain calm and treat the incident as a natural phenomenon in response to the brewing apprehension.
