Police arrest teacher for abusing child in video

Police operatives have arrested a school teacher, Stella Nwadigo

caught physically abusing a three-year-old pupil during learning period in Christ-Mitots School, Isawo road, Ikorodu, Lagos State, Nigeria.

Spokesman for the Nigeria Police Command in Lagos State, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the arrest on Wednesday.

He said on X formerly Twitter that “The teacher has been taken into custody and is currently undergoing investigation”.

“Further necessary actions will follow to ensure justice is served”, according to him.

TheNewspad reports that a distressing two-minute video showing a female teacher repeatedly hitting the pupil, sparked outrage among netizens on social Media space, Wednesday when she was whisked away by police operatives.

The widespread condemnation caused by the video, with calls for action against the teacher, prompted the State government to launch investigation.

According to Vanguard online, the teacher struck the toddler, who remains unnamed for child protection reasons, five times during a lesson on writing numbers in the 60s video where she instructed the child to write the numbers 61 and 62, punctuating her guidance with physical punishment.

“It is like this. Write,” she said, hitting the child.

“Write six for me. Write. Six. Six,” she continued.

“Like this, six like this. Like this. Now your one. Six. One. Sixty-one. Write.”

Another social media user queried; “Six, it is like this. Like this,” she said, slapping the child again.

“Your two… Six. Two. Sixty-two. Write. Like this… Like this, that is six”.

@Bartezz10: “That’s what poor man pikin dey faces from public school teachers over the years. That’s not new anyway!”

TheNewspad reports that parents of the pupil and Management of the school have been summoned by the Lagos State police Command.
